At Squirrel Hayes, the intention of our MFL curriculum is to develop an interest in and thirst for learning other languages. We aim to introduce the learning of the French language and the understanding of its culture in enjoyable and stimulating ways. We hope to lay the foundations for future language learning.
Our MFL curriculum has been designed to progressively developed skills in French. MFL is taught to the learners in Y3 and Y4. We use the Rigolo scheme alongside many other resources such as Google Translate and French songs.
Learners are taught in discreet sessions and basic French vocabulary such as numbers and days the week are regularly used in other contexts so that they are embedded.
Class teachers, SLT and the MFL Leader will measure the impact of curriculum planning for MFL through pupil interviews to gauge the acquisition of skills. Analysis of impact will inform ongoing curriculum planning.
