Reception Admissions

Parents/Carers are able to either make their school applications online or download application forms through the following page on the Staffordshire County Council Website:

Online applications are now the preferred method of making a preference for schools at the normal age of entry. Parents/Carers who apply online are able to receive email notification of their school place on the national offer day, rather than through the post.

Children may be admitted into our Reception at the beginning of the Autumn Term of the school year in which they reach the age of five, (i.e. a child who reaches the age of four by 31 August may start in the Reception year group in September)

In consultation with the school governors, the Local Authority determines the number of pupils that may be admitted to a school in each year: this is generally referred to as the schools published admission number (PAN).

If the number of pupils seeking admission exceeds the number available places, the following order of priority will apply:-

  1. Relevant Children in Care.
  2. Children who have an elder brother or sister in attendance at the school at the time of the proposed admission date.
  3. Children living within the catchment area of the school.
  4. Children who satisfy both of the following tests:

Test 1: The child is distinguished from the great majority either on medical grounds or by other exceptional circumstances.

Test 2: The child would suffer hardship if they were unable to attend the school.

5. Children of staff in either or both of the following circumstances:

6. Where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made, and/or

7. The member of staff is recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage.

8. Other children arranged in order of priority according to how near their home addresses are to the main gate of the school, determined by a straight-line measurement as calculated by the Local Authority’s Geographical Information System.
